Board of Directors

Welcome Letter from the Chair of the Board of Directors

Dear Saint Francis School ʻOhana,

We warmly welcome our new Head of School, Dr. Casey Asato, and his exciting vision to make Saint Francis a “world class college preparatory school.”

Although Dr. Asato is coming to us from his post as Director of Curriculum at Seabury Hall on Maui, he was born and raised right here on Oʻahu and attended Damien Memorial School.

His values are our values and his faith is as strong as ours. We believe that Dr. Asato is a man students, faculty, staff, and parents will come to trust and love. He is a problem solver, but one of his greatest strengths is his willingness to listen.

When you see him on campus, greet him, chat with him. Tell him a little about yourself. Let him know that you are anxious to work with him and that you look forward to achieving continued success together with him.

Dr. Asato is an educator who believes in “global education,” a critical concept today that encourages students to truly understand the world in which we live, and to learn about other cultures.

He has not just “talked the talked” about global education. He has adventurously “walked the talk.” Dr. Asato has visited 24 countries, sometimes touring on motorcycle and sometimes on bicycle. We find this to be impressive evidence of Dr. Asato’s fervent mission to reach out and communicate with all kinds of people. He is a man without borders, without prejudices. He is completely open to our ideas and our opportunities.

We believe Dr. Asato is a leader who will truly enable us to carry out the spirit of the word he learned from Japanese villagers in his travels: Ganbaru—“To do one’s best.”

Sincerely,
Randall M. L. Yee
