Alumni Association
May 3, 2019
Aloha Fellow Saint Francis School Alumni,
On January 7, 2019, Randall Yee of the Saint Francis School Board, announced the closure of our high school due to financial reasons. Then on February 14, 2019, Sister Barbara Jean Donovan, General Minister of the Sisters of Saint Francis Neumann Communities, announced the closure of the entire school for the same reason. The Senior Class of 2019 will be the last graduating class of Saint Francis School. This decision has affected each and everyone of us in so many ways.
On behalf of the Saint Francis School Alumni Board of Directors, I need to set the record straight about the school closure announcement. The Alumni Board of Directors had no prior knowledge of the financial status of the school. We heard the breaking news on KITV on January 7, 2019 just as everyone else did. After meeting with Randall Yee and Sister Donovan, the Alumni Board was told this decision is final.
The Alumni Association was organized for the purpose of serving the alumni and supporting Saint Francis School. Over these many years we have raised thousands of dollars in donations for scholarships. Our annual Alumni Homecoming luaus were attended by over 250 alumni each year. Sadly, at our Alumni Board meeting on March 16, 2019, the directors voted to officially dissolve the Saint Francis School Alumni Association. We operate under the school’s non-profit status and with the closure of the school, our status will be terminated.
We, as Saint Francis School Alumni, can be so proud of our Alma Mater and the historical legacy that Saint Marianne and all the Sisters of Saint Francis that followed gave to us. We are who we are because of them.
Thank you all for your support of Saint Francis School and the Alumni Association.
