On Friday, September 14th, Saint Francis School held their 43rd annual Aloha Show. A tradition that started in 1969, the Aloha Show hosts a bevy of numerous hula performances that span from the elementary school all the way to the senior class. Imbued with brilliant color and spirit, this year’s Aloha Show was a resounding success.

Song and dance echoed through the drizzly afternoon as family and friends gathered in the upper courtyard to support the performers who had been working for weeks to perfect and excel at their performances. “It’s my senior year and I really wanted to perform at my last Aloha Show because it’s such a great tradition. I’ve been dancing in it since the 8th grade,” says Bianca Dukesherer.

Not only were the students excited about and involved about the show, but also the coordinators. “In this year’s show, there was a lot of behind the scenes chaos, but it came off extremely well. I was very proud of all the dancers,” said Mrs. Hulihe’e, co-coordinator of the show. Head and heart of the show was Mrs. Cameron who stated the She was proud of the students and the beautiful costumes present in this year’s ceremony.

The performances were done by grade level and finished off with a heartwarming performance from the show’s court and queen, Tasha Calma. “It was such a great privilege to be this year’s queen. I had a lot of fun performing in front of everybody,” stated Tasha.

This year’s Aloha Show showcased the commendable skill and hard work that Saint Francis students and faculty put into an incredible tradition. A successful day teeming with emotion and vitality, it was truly a highlight of this year’s events.

On November 8th, Saint Francis School held its annual Penny Carnival fundraiser to raise money for Catholic Charities Hawaii. This year’s theme was based on Disney Pixar, making the carnival teem with Disney food, games and fun.

The ASC was crowded with eager students, ready to bite into the delicious food and play the entertaining games that each divisional vender had to offer. From Ratatouille croissant sandwiches, to Wall-E mud pies, Toy Story Toy boxes to Cars races, this year’s Penny Carnival was a sure hit!
Seniors Isabel Luk and Kiana Flynn proudly pose at their Ratatouille bake station!

Not only was there fun inside the ASC, but also outside as students danced and boogied to the esprit music that played. The whole school gathered to watch the dance moves that our students displayed.

“I liked how we could all mingle together and have fun, but also help for a cause at the same time, said senior, Grace Parubrub.

Penny Carnival truly brought the school together as one community; but more importantly, the money will go towards a good cause at The Catholic Charities of Hawaii.
