Aloha Plentiful at Senior Luau

The Senior Luau is an event filled with love and celebration to acknowledge the graduating class at Saint Francis every year. However, when it’s your year and your class, it’s different. People have mixed feelings of splitting up.  Senior Ciara Ratum says, “It was nice spending time with all the people leaving for college. I️t was a bittersweet moment because we are all leaving each other after four plus years of being with each other.  After leaving all of that behind, I’m excited to see where everyone will end up and all the success everyone will achieve later in life.”
The Senior Luau took place on April 28th.  The ASC was filled with live music, delicious food, a photo booth, and most importantly, aloha. All of the families there made it feel like we were one big ohana.  In a way, we are. We have been on our highschool journey together.  We’ve seen everyone around us grow, including ourselves.
Seniors Kulia Cummings and Sammie Ofoia performed, hula and singing for everyone. For Sammie, it is a big part of her life. She says, “What singing is to me is how I get to express my feelings out to anyone melodically. Singing is what brings people together. The lyrics of the song are what speaks to a closed mind. I’ve been secretly singing all my life. I only sing when I am asked and I never give that secret away to people who don’t know.” Sammie’s dad, Jack Ofoia, who is also a talented singer, performed, too.

Ciara Ratum made a powerful impact with a slide show at the end of the night. It featured the class of 2018 and our many moments together. Seeing it brought me back to our good times that I
will cherish for the rest of my life.
No matter what we go through, we will always have a special bond. Now, it is time for seniors to say goodbye to highschool.  Jaeden Cruz says, “I think I’m ready to move on. I️’m proud of myself of what I️ did to accomplish my goals.  I’m proud of my work and I’m ready.” Our journey may not be together, but we are ready.
