Saints Take The Koa – History Is Made

A group of athletes, new to volleyball, put their minds to it and succeeded. The boys practiced, worked hard, and it paid off.  Every day, they pushed each other to grow and get better.
The Saints never quit and advanced their way through the bracket at states. The day finally came for the championship. The Saints prevailed in five epic sets.  After losing the first two sets 15-25 and 19-25, the Saints rallied winning the last three sets 25-18, 25-19, 15-12.  The Saints fought hard and made history earning our first boys volleyball state title for Saint Francis.
Saints honored in the championship game and tournament for their excellence were Jesus Garcia, Mofuike Hafoka, Wembley Mailei, and Walter Berthold. Jesus Garcia was named Most Outstanding Player.
According to the Star Advertiser, Junior Jesus Garcia was ranked 11th on the Boys Volleyball All-State Team. Those earning Honorable Mention were, Seniors Wembley Mailei, Mofuike Hafoka, Boris Vukovic, and Lanson Umufuke. Coach Dandi Holder was also named Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year.
