Mission and Philosophy

aboutusheaderSaint Francis School is a legacy of Blessed Marianne Cope who dedicated her life to the care of those with Hansen’s disease and who were compelled to live in Kalaupapa, Molakai. Joyfully Mother Marianne accepted this call from God to continue the work begun by Father Damien and to minister to those whom no one else would serve. Many Hawaiian young women chose to follow Mother Marianne’s example and joined the Sisters of Saint Francis who also saw a need to establish and staff schools and hospitals in Hawaii.

Established in 1924, the mission of Saint Francis School is to provide a “Quality Catholic Education in a Spirit of Joy!” Away from the city in beautiful Manoa valley, adjacent to the University of Hawai’i, the Christian atmosphere and philosophy of the school is to provide a great moral and spiritual foundation for its students. With its courtyards and open spaces, the quiet and beauty of the campus provides an outstanding environment in which to study.

We believe that all children are capable of learning and can become self-reliant, contributing members of their church, local communities, and our global society. Saint Francis School admits students based on academic promise and does not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion, or socio-economic status. We are proud of this legacy, and we continue to be committed to academic and moral excellence. We welcome your interest, your questions, and your visits.
