The Little Mermaid JR: A Swimming Success

The Little Mermaid JR is a really powerful story filled with action, adventure, love, and mystery. I wanted this assignment because of my love for theatre and to show my support for this show. I believe this show will be a success and I hope for the best for everyone.

A short synopsis about, The Little Mermaid JR. A feisty sixteen-year-old mermaid whose name is Ariel is profound with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface,(which are forbidden) she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the dark witch Ursula, to become human for three days. When plans go bad for the forbidden lovers, King Triton must make the ultimate sacrifice for his beloved daughter.

The cast has been working for months on this show. The company has told me, “we look forward to this show and they hope that the audience truly understands the true meaning of adventure.” I’ve spoken with a few members of the cast and from what I’ve learned it’s been a tough long road to the end. A lot of time has been put into this production. I asked a few other members why they wanted to do the show. Some answers were “because I’m bored”, or “because I felt like it”, but one response really stuck with me.

” I wanted to put on an amazing show, and put a great big smile on my peers’ faces because it’s been a long journey for all of us this year.” I admire this response because of that genuine sentiment.

Mrs. Minerbi told me,” these kids have worked so hard to complete this task and It’s been my honor to help them along the way.” Mrs. Minerbi is a great director. Her style of teaching is advanced and fun, in a way that when I walked past rehearsals one day I didn’t see one person without a smile on their face. I believe that what the cast and company learn from her they can incorporate that into their actual lives. From projecting their voices to blocking and memorization it can all help on what they do for a career.

I also had the honor to speak with Cameron a girl in the show who works mostly backstage. She’s been in theatre for just this year. It is her freshman year in high school where it is hard to fit in, find your place, or see where you belong. Cameron chooses her art elective to be theatre. Theatre here is incredibly different than anywhere else, but it’s enjoyable.

Theatre is a safe place where anyone can be anything or any person they want to become. It’s a family, a family full of people just down the hall. Good luck in Tech Week cast; they will be working long hours, staying late, and going insane. All of this so they can put on a great show for us, so let’s go out there and show our support for our show, The Little Mermaid JR some support!
