Mission and History

ENGAGE • EMPOWER • INSPIRE

Our mission is to provide youth of diverse ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds with knowledge and wisdom that can be obtained through a liberal arts education with a Catholic atmosphere.

Saint Francis School offers a “Quality Catholic Education in a Spirit of Joy!” Originally founded in 1924 as a high school for girls, it has grown into a co-ed educational site for toddlers (age two) through 12th grade students. Sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Francis of the Neumann Communities, the school embraces the Catholic philosophy that each individual is unique, created by God, for God, and in this spirit, Saint Francis School develops the whole child: mind, body, and spirit.

The characteristics that make Saint Francis School one of the top private institutions of learning in Hawaii are its highly educated and caring faculty, academically sound curriculum, teacher student ratio, strong campus ministry program, warm and welcoming Ohana, and affordability. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools (HAIS).

Students come from Hawaii, the U.S. mainland, Samoa, Fiji, Canada, Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea to study in a safe, friendly and academically challenging environment. Competent, confident, and well-rounded young women and men graduate from Saint Francis School and matriculate to colleges such as Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Loyola Marymount, Columbia, Mills, UCLA, the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific University and Chaminade University.
